Asid Awards: Chapter Office Best Overall

Designing a new office space for the American Society of Interior Designers Minnesota Chapter and representing her peers to potential clients was a bit intimidating for Rachelle Schoessler Lynn, principal of LHB Corp.'s Workplace Team in Minneapolis.

ASID's annual awards are meant to recognize and promote outstanding interior design among the Minnesota chapter's 600 members. This year, 41 projects were judged in eight residential and five commercial categories. Here, The Business Journal features the honorees in the commercial categories. To be eligible, projects had to have been completed within the past three years, by a design team led by an ASID member in good standing.

Though ASID's own office may seem like a shoo-in to win one of the association's awards, it and the other nominations were evaluated by five judges from out of state, each of whom has extensive credentials in architecture and interior design. The judges awarded points to each project based on overall design innovation, functionality, scale, and use of light, color, texture and furnishings. Projects that received more than 85 percent of the possible points were named winners; those with 70 to 85 percent of the points were honorable mentions. Because of this scoring system, not all categories have winners.

"This year's commercial honorees represent the institutions for which Minnesota is known -- Mayo, Caribou and Andersen Corp.," said Kristen Mengelkoch, co-owner of Pisa Design Inc. in St. Louis Park, and 2003 chairwoman of the Minnesota Chapter-ASID awards committee. "And it's a great source of pride for ASID members that our association's office was selected Best of Show. Each of these projects was judged outstanding by some of the most respected and acclaimed interior designers in the country. That says a lot for the caliber of commercial design in our chapter."

"there Aren't Any Jobs For Me!"

Think about potential employers, think about how your skills and knowledge can enhance an organization. If you can't think of occupations that can use people schooled in the arts and humanities, then go over to Before You Search and check out our information on Exploring Career Options.

I have a degree in Music (Performance) from the Boston Conservatory. After graduation, I worked as a library paraprofessional while freelancing. Some organizations actually preferred to hire musicians for administrative duties, citing their ability to concentrate on fine detail work for long periods without fatigue. I also worked as an orchestra librarian before moving into library sciences and obtaining my MLS degree. I still play, I could still freelance if I wanted, but I never sweat public presentations because public speaking is much easier than playing the horn in performance.

Help Needed Reg Checking Job Status

It should be possible (on z/OS aka MVS) to write a little REXX to do the notify part....but I have to ask....Why bother? As for purging jobs that would have to be done via a JES2 command and that would involve some security considerations to ensure that the user was authorised to issue JES2 commands and to make sure that they only issue purges against their own jobs. Do you have SDSF?

Thanks Kevin. I want to ensure that users dont leave jobs running that might get into infinite loop brining down the system. Because this has happened in the past. Is there a way that we can find out jobs running under his/her ID and notify him when he/she is trying to logoff? can you please give me pointers on how to proceed on this.
